Melina Kourantidou is an environmental and resource economist working with invasive species management and fisheries economics, often with a focus in the Arctic. Her long-term research interests include interdisciplinary approaches that apply economics, ecology and biology to environmental issues in order to improve management strategies and help ensure sustainable development and healthy resilient ecosystems. Her work is grounded in marine resource management and governance issues and integrates natural and social science research. She is particularly interested in understanding effects induced by ecological and related socioeconomic changes along with ways in which human behavior affects marine resources. This encompasses interaction with local resource users and communities affected by changes as well as understanding of trade-offs, often through bioeconomic modelling, optimal allocation of resources as well as control and monitoring strategies for invasive species along with opportunities for cooperative management.
She has recently joined AMURE (feb.2023) to work on the post-doc project AWAIT “Arctic Waters at stake from Alien Invasive species Threats”she has gotten co-funded by the region of Brittany (Bienvenue) and ISblue.
