Marilena benefits from an IsBlue funding for invited professors. She will be hosted at AMURE until the 28th of March to work on Marine Spatial Planning (MSP). She will be involved in a comparative study between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Gulf of Thessaloniki with a particular focus on land-sea interactions and the adaptive management of the aquaculture. The aim of her stay is to develop exchanges with researchers from AMURE and to undertake some interventions within two postgraduate training programs (E2AME at UBO and IGREC at UBS).

- Biography:
Marilena Papageorgiou (PhD) is an assistant professor of spatial planning in the School of Spatial Planning and Development (Faculty of Engineering) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Tutor at the Hellenic Open University (BSc and MSc“Tourism Administration”).
She holds a Dimploma (Eng.) in Spatial Planning and Regional Development (Universityof Thessaly, Greece) and a DESS in “Tourisme, Culture et Développement Local” from the Université d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse (Département de Géographie). She also holds a PhD in Spatial Planning from the University of Thessaly (Greece).
Professionally she has worked as a spatial planner (Eng.) with an expertise in tourism and cultural management, participating as a consultant of the Greek public sector and authorities (the Hellenic Parliament, the Ministry for the Environment, theWestern Greece Regional Authority, etc).
She is currently member of the Hellenic National Council of Spatial Planning(representing the Technical Chamber of Greece). Between 2009 – 2018 she was Deputy Bureau Member of ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners)– Greek Section, and between 2013 – 2016 she was Member of the Board of the Association of Greek Planners.
Her research interests mainly focus on spatial planning, tourism spatial planning, sustainable planning of natural and cultural heritage. Since 2014, she has been involved (as principal investigator or as member of the core team) in several international research projects related to maritime spatial planning (MSP), spatial and marine governance and coastal zone management (funded by the UN, CoE, EU, WWF, etc). Currently she works on the integration of the EGD goals in MSP (with an emphasis on the sectors of aquaculture, fisheries and ORE) and on the integration of risk management in MSP.
